When I tried to upgrade using the DVD, it required a Product ID, which I don’t have and I didn’t think of trying my Windows 7 one. I used the 64 bit Media Creation Tool to first download Windows 10 and then burnt the iso file to DVD. Of course the Windows update route cannot be used. Searching the web I found others who had successfully upgraded and others that hadn’t. The Get W10 app informed me it was not suitable for upgrade.
